2021 / 16u Boys AAU basketball

I am not going to say much other than this is the only place that you will find the top 250 rated 16U AAU basketball teams posted anywhere in the USA or around the world.  I will post all the teams I have rated later but here's the top 250, rated by a Sagarin type algorithm,  not some editorial wild ass guess as to the top teams in the country. Here you go....  my apologies if I have your state wrong. Larry Hughes Basketball Academy stepped up in the final and resisted a tremendous comeback effort by a re-energized Team Ramey CCM Red team that was down 41-21 at half time to tie the game at 52 all before losing in the end by a score of 66-57.  It wasn't the only close shave for LHBA as they had to fight hard against Arsensal Hoops Elite in the semis and Team Ramey CCM White in the quarters to win it all.  LHBA had to shoot 60% from the floor and 45% from three against the hot Ramey White team to win 90-77 in a 30 minute game.  When Earl Austin Jr. came by at half time and the score was 54-40, he thought the game was over but there was still a half to play. The nets were smoking hot.  At that point, LHBA had been shooting over 60% from behind the arc.  Both Team Ramey teams were a whole lot of trouble for every team they faced. It's been a great tournament so far down at Center St. Louis for Team Ramey CCM Red and White and they could meet in the final, if White can get by a good Larry Hughes Basketball Academy team this afternoon.  But White will have to deal with a much improved Missouri Basketball Club team from Washington at 8am this morning to even play LHBA. Team Ramey Red should walk over the field in the top bracket, having won their play-in games by 24 and 28 points.  Ramey Red should beat a Knights team (that lost to Ramey White) by at least 15 and Illinois Bears Black by 12.  The final,  most likely with LHBA, could go down to the buzzer. Alright, I am not finished with all the tournaments, but here's a peek at the teams that I have rated and how they compare to Prep Hoops ratings.  Not too shabby although I don't know why a few teams like South East United, Team Final and LivOn Fleur De Lis  didn't get more recognition for their efforts. When Prep Hoops talked about having a national tournament represented by teams from each state and you look at Maryland with three teams in the top 10, how do you pick the best one?  They are less than a ratings point apart.  I need to think about that one a little more. I posted the UAA and E16 ratings earlier this week and both Team Griffin (134) and Philly Pride (136) seemed to like the fact that I rated them atop their respective tournaments with healthy argument about who really is the national champion. Down in Birmingham, Alabama, Adidas held a spectacular tournamenet with an astounding 74 teams and the Atlanta Celtics surprised everyone with a neat victory over the New World team in the championship game.  SE United also had a great run at the championship.  Team Lillard and Indiana Elite, both pre-tournament favorites, weren't quite up to the task. Overall, the tournament was a strong field with a top ten rating of 129, equal to Under Armour and just behind the very select 16 invitees of EYBL's E16 championship.  Because of the size of the Adidas tournament, the field average rating was jsut under 117 which is still above the top ten rating for most early season tournaments.  In fact, a lot of of local tournaments are wo...

In my last blog post, I rated Philly Pride at 135.6 as the top UAA team, winning the finale over DC Premier, but who is the top 16U team in the country?  Team Griffin won the E16 tournament beating Team Takeover 75-73 in an exciting final and claiming the "national championship" on Twitter.  Yeah, yeah, there are at least five or ten national championships, but maybe Griffin does have a point.  I said in the last blog that the UAA finale had some gaudy team ratings at 122 average and a top ten team rating average of 129.  Well, Griffin had to run through a pretty classy field of elite teams in the E16 league and the final bracket of 16 to win this past week. I calculated that the top 16 in the E16 league had a team rating average of 129 and the top ten teams rated a whopping 132!  So Griffin eked out a two point win over Team Takeover but only a one point win over Vegas Elite.  So I gave a slight nod to Vegas Elite on the calculation for second spot over ...
