Adidas Boys Championship 16U Ratings - Is there a new #1? Atlanta Celtics think so
I posted the UAA and E16 ratings earlier this week and both Team Griffin (134) and Philly Pride (136) seemed to like the fact that I rated them atop their respective tournaments with healthy argument about who really is the national champion.
Down in Birmingham, Alabama, Adidas held a spectacular tournamenet with an astounding 74 teams and the Atlanta Celtics surprised everyone with a neat victory over the New World team in the championship game. SE United also had a great run at the championship. Team Lillard and Indiana Elite, both pre-tournament favorites, weren't quite up to the task.
Overall, the tournament was a strong field with a top ten rating of 129, equal to Under Armour and just behind the very select 16 invitees of EYBL's E16 championship. Because of the size of the Adidas tournament, the field average rating was jsut under 117 which is still above the top ten rating for most early season tournaments. In fact, a lot of of local tournaments are won by 117 rating teams.
So where do the Atlanta Celtics fit with Philly Pride and Team Griffin. Right square between them. If you have a crow bar, you can just wedge them in to second notch behind Philly Pride but if you had these three teams play each other in a round robin, they would probably all come out 1-1. They are that close.
I am getting closer to a national ratings listing. I still have a backlog of tournaments to calculate. It takes me about four to six hours to go through a 74 team tournament and do the comparative scoring and algorithms in my Excel spreadsheet. You might think I am teasing you by tweeting these ratings blogs out a little at a time but I have only so much time in the day to get this stuff done and the tournaments come fast and furious this time of year.
And this weekend, not only are there some more big tournaments to look at, but my 16U grandson is playing in the Three Stripes Alliance where I am scoring 5 or six games and the eigth grade grandson is playing for two teams in another tournament in St. Louis in six games (which I thankfully will just watch), so peace, brother. This blog will drip results slowly until you scream for more.
