Under Armour 16U Boys AAU Basketball Final rankings July 17, 2019

After Team Griffin won the E16 EYBL title, I saw that they tweeted that they were the national champions.  Yeah, sure.  Then I saw the results of the UAA finals and saw that Philly Pride came up the champion in the UAA final with a 55-53 win over DC Premier after posting an impressive 11-1 record in the UAA League.  Several of the teams that looked good early on, including the Florida Vipers and Team Rio, slipped in the rankings in the July competition.  Philly Pride has been atop the ratings for 16U by a number of websites, including UAA, Prep Hoops and now I think I may have to agree with them.  The ratings algorithm speaks for itself.  I don't know where Team Griffin will end up because I haven't finished the EYBL tournament but I don't think they will match up to Philly Pride.

And I also like to look at how deep the tournament is, by looking at the average rating for all teams and the average rating for the top ten teams.  Those statistics tell me something about the depth of the field and the strength at the top.  The UAA tournament was a top dog tournament, as far as I can tell, and Philly Pride was a top dog team for a AAA type tournament.

Sorry Team Griffin, you might be, you might not.  I will post E16 ratings next.

Hats off to Philly Pride.  UAA champions.  National Champions?  I don't know.  Everyone wants to claim that title......

JULY 14U/8th Grade USA Rankings

I have updated my 14U/8th grade rankings prior to some big tournaments coming up.  The top 25 are all rock solid teams and any one of them could win any of the upcoming tournaments.  I am not going to differentiate the 14U and 8th grade ratings because that would take a whole lot of work to investigate all of the teams that might have 15 or 16 year olds playing on an 8th grade team because they have been held back for academic or other reasons. The Larry Hughes Basketball Academy Select team coached by Eric Bain (my grandson plays for him) is my anchor to these ratings at 100 (now ranked 249).  I have tried to list teams by state but some may be associated with the tournament state that they played in.
