Prep Hoops first night.... I missed it by THAT MUCH!

What would Maxwell Smart say after he screwed up big time in the sitcom spy series "Get Smart"?  I missed it by THAT MUCH!

Well, if you watched Jets Orange get drubbed by an excellent shooting Gateway St. Louis Basketball team, you would know why Gateway is probably the best team in the St. Louis area.  After Gateway got up by 15-20 points on the Jets Orange in the early part of the second half, Orange made a furious comeback to get within eight and I thought that they might turn the game around, just like they had against Larry Hughes in the Arch Elite Challenge Championship last weekend.

Gateway, behind a couple of deep threes from Brock Wakefield, of South Iron, Mo, put the lead back up in the teens and never looked back.  So I would have to say my Pre-tourney ratings should have flip-flopped the two teams.  I missed it by THAT MUCH.  The only saving grace is that Orange has a chance to come back from the bottom of the bracket and play Gateway in the final on Sunday so I might save face in a couple of days.

The rest of the night pretty much went to form, except for the Arsenal Hoops and PAC Gold game:

Illinois Bears beat Tulsa Hawks White by 8 (spread was 8!)
All Missouri Attack beat ET21 Buckeyes by 8 (spread was 3)
Knights beat Arkansas Heat by 24 (spread was 22)
St. Louis Blazers beat JC Thunder by 29 (spread was 14)
Victory Ministry Orange beat Tennessee Edge by 5 (spread was 5!)

Games I could do better at.....
Hoop Smart barely beat Iowa Dynasty by 1 (spread was 26)
PAC Gold upset Arsenal Hoops by 12 (spread was -9)

Texas Tar Heels beat Team Iowa by 22 (no rating on Iowa)
QC Ballers beat KC Pacers White by 21 (no rating on QC Ballers)


Don't go to Vegas on Gramps Power Ratings.... Just saying.

2021 / 16U FINAL TOP 250 BOYS BASKETBALL RANKINGS AUGUST 2019

Yesterday, I posted the rankings for the very elite adidas Gauntlet Finale in sunny California in late July, won by a surging Team Marcus Smart/YGC 36 team that dominated a classy field, including the highly rated Atlantic Celtics.  Many polls have had Philly Pride rated at #1 after their championship down in Alabama in the UAA finale.  Pride is also a very, very good team. If you put these two teams on a court tomorrow, my ratings tell me that they could play seven games and they would be 3-3 going into the seventh game.  In fact, if you put the top twelve teams in a tournament, you would have about the same chance of picking the winner as drawing a Jack out of a deck of cards (1 in 12 or 4 in 52 or about 8%). Every big sponsor has their special finale tournament.  You will probably never get a big Finale with all the top teams.  We will never know who is really #1.  But for right now, based on my algorithm, I give a slight nod of the mathematical equa...

JULY 14U/8th Grade USA Rankings

I have updated my 14U/8th grade rankings prior to some big tournaments coming up.  The top 25 are all rock solid teams and any one of them could win any of the upcoming tournaments.  I am not going to differentiate the 14U and 8th grade ratings because that would take a whole lot of work to investigate all of the teams that might have 15 or 16 year olds playing on an 8th grade team because they have been held back for academic or other reasons. The Larry Hughes Basketball Academy Select team coached by Eric Bain (my grandson plays for him) is my anchor to these ratings at 100 (now ranked 249).  I have tried to list teams by state but some may be associated with the tournament state that they played in.
