KC CLASSIC 16U BASKETBALL RANKINGS MAY 10-12
The KC Classic in Lawrence KS this past weekend had some great teams and super prospects. Prep Hoops Missouri and the great Earl Austin Jr. did a fine job of covering the event and I am sure he will weigh in on individual player impressions later this week.
The KC Classic was an interesting comparison for me because Woodz Elite, an Arkansas-based team, stepped off the EYBL stage to come over to Lawrence after losing three games in the EYBL session one by 12-19 points per game. In the KC Classic, they dominated every team, winning by at least 17 and beating Yanders Law by 45 in the final. Their participation in the KC Classic helps me titrate the ratings algorithm and adjust the EYBL league up from where I started them off. I will speak more to that in the EYBL blog when I get to their ratings later this week.
Woodz Elite dominated KC Team Yobo by 20 and Yobo is no slouch, having lost by eight in a previous tournament to Team Buddy Buckets, another excellent Oklahoma team, if I have things straight.
St. Louis' Larry Hughes Basketball Academy looked really good Friday night and Saturday morning with 6'9" Sam Thompson back, after two months out, as Thompson had several double double (pts/rebounds) with over 5 blocks per game but his lack of conditioning caught up to them in their buzzer beater loss to SHOtime, or they might have been in the hunt with Marcus Denmon Elite and Yanders for the final. LHBA has a chance for redemption this week in St. Louis with the Arch Elite Showcase but will be strongly challenged by the two outstanding Jets teams (Blue and Orange) from Illinois.
All in all, it looks like Woodz Elite is the real thing and the EYBL teams are another step up from the KC Classic. More on that later.
