ARCH ELITE AND PREP HOOPS SHOWME SHOWDOWN 16U BOYS RATINGS
I wanted to wrap up last weekends 16U Arch Elite Challenge ratings and then I saw the pairings for the Prep Hoops ShowMe Showdown this coming weekend and it floored me. The tournament pairing on Friday night has Gateway playing SW Illinois Jets Orange in the Pool A pairing. What the hell? How could you pair the two best teams in the area in the first pool game? Come on, People, wake up and smell the ratings.
Anyway, back to the Arch Elite Challenge..... It was an exciting weekend with 6 games for most teams. That's a lot of games, especially for a team like Larry Hughes Basketball that runs a high speed throttle and motors up and down the court at breakneck speed. Unfortunately for LHBA, they were short-handed again, playing with 6 or 7 players most of the weekend. After blowing through the rest of the competition and putting a hurt on Jets Orange, leading by 16 with 11 minutes left in the game, the gas tank went dry and the Jets, 10 men deep, began a furious comeback that tied the game with four minutes left and won it on free throws. LHBA missed three or four layups and second chance shots in the last few minutes that would have padded their lead but couldn't muster up enough legs to hold off Orange. These are two of the best teams in the St. Louis area, along with Jets Blue, who Orange crushed by 18 in a semi-final. All in all, it was an exciting tournament with some quality teams.
Back to the Prep Hoops tournament this weekend. I like the field, although I can't say that it is real deep. I like it because there are teams from UAA (Gateway), Recruit Look (both Jets teams, KC Pacers Blue, Arkansas Heat) and Prep Hoops (numerous) so that I can compare team ratings from different tournaments to calibrate across many regions of the country. The more comparisons I can get, the better the ratings algorithm becomes and the closer I can get to a real ranking.
So listed below the Arch Elite final ratings are the pre-tournament ratings for the Prep Hoops event. The lucky part about bad pairings, which is what Gateway and Jets Orange are in Pool A, is that all of the teams play into a full bracket on Saturday so neither Gateway or Orange is hurt by ridiculous pool assignments. I just wish these guys would look at my ratings before they assign these pools. LOL.
Read em, and weep. I don't have all of the teams ranked, but look for Gateway or one of the Jets teams to win this tournament.
And if you don't have anything to do Friday night, go out to Center St. Louis at 8pm and watch two very good 16U boys basketball teams go to battle under the boards.
